Vietnam - Hanoi weather forecast
Vietnam has a unique shape, like an elongated S that stretches towards the Indo-Chinese Peninsula, covering an area of 128,000 square miles. The topography varies considerably because of the diverse range of latitude (between 9 and 23 degrees North) and altitude and this has resulted in variable climatic conditions from the north to the south of the country. There are four distinct seasons in the northern provinces: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Winters can be quite cold in the north compared to other parts of the country. Frost and snow can also occur in the mountains of the north. The rainy season spans the months of August to November and sometimes typhoons threaten life and agriculture in the country.
There is variable climate in the central regions of Vietnam spanning across the coastal plains and central highlands. These regions can get very humid in the middle of the year. However, cooler weather can be expected in the dry part of the year from November to June. Basically central Vietnam is characterised by high temperature plateaus. The ancient city of Hue, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Danang, Nha Trang and the alluvial delta of the Mekong River can be found in this region.
The southern region is predominantly sub-equatorial, with two main seasons. A wet rainy season ranges from May to October and the dry season spans the months of November to April.
